Yosemite sunset Cottage is about 9.5 miles North West of Oakhurst (if you are driving from LA, highway 41), and 24 miles East of Mariposa (if you are driving from San Francisco Bay Area, highway 140). When coming through highway 140, you will pass through Mariposa town. This is a perfect place for your grocery shopping for the trip.

If you are driving from LA, there are two large grocery chain stores in the town of Oakhurst:
Vons (40044 Hwy 49, Oakhurst, CA). Raley’s (40041 Hwy 49, Oakhurst, CA 93644) and if you are wanting to do curbside pick up raleys is perfect online shopping and pick up in the ecart parking. Make sure to call them when you arrive.
***Yosemite National Park South Entrance: Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias***
Our house is conveniently located only 27 miles away from the Mariposa Grove, the home of some 500 massive, ancient giant sequoias and the largest grove of the three in Yosemite National Park. The oldest Giant Sequoia in the grove - Grizzly Giant is between probably 1900–2400 years old. Due to Covid-19, Yosemite National Park requires permit to enter. Please reserve your permit first at https://www.recreation.gov/ticket/facility/300015
***Bass Lake***
Our house is conveniently located only 16 miles away from Bass Lake and water a lotta boat rentals and dishing trips. You will find a lot of water activities at Bass Lake.
**Yosemite Valley***
Our house is 64 miles to Yosemite Valley Visitor Center through Merced River route-scenic highway 140, perfect for a day trip, or 50 miles through HWY 41. Whether you're looking for a challenging hike to places like Glacier point (4 mile trail), Half Dome and Sentinel Rock, or you are just looking for a nice relaxing day spent next to the river or any of the various picnic locations across the park, our house is located close enough to the park that every option is viable without having to trade off the comfort of a furnished home at the end of the day. There is skiing and snowboarding and snowshoe-ing at Badger Pass inside Yosemite.
***Historic Town of Mariposa***
If you are exhausted from yesterday’s trip to Yosemite, you could just as easily spend a few hours in the small historical town of Mariposa to experience the old-town charm. Located only 24 miles away from our house, Mariposa offers a wide range of various attractions from the Mariposa History Museum, to antique shops, restaurants and diners, wine tasting (Casto Oaks Winery) and olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting (Costa Livos), or go to Pioneer Market to restock for the next day trip to the surrounding areas, and much more!

You won’t be disappointed in paying a short visit to this museum, which is an easy 10 miles drive from our house. It recaptures the flavor of 19th Century life in the Sierra Nevada mountains including the jail, school, wells and log houses.
