My family just fell in love with this secluded FARMHOUSE which has been a treasure of one family for over 100 years. Originally having 87 acres, this home is still on 7+/- acres of those original acres (rebuilt years ago) with the house, shops, barn and especially The Chicken House—NOW Payten’s Peeps.
Payten is our 8-year old daughter and it has been her project to recover that overgrown chicken house by clearing the chicken coop area from years of growth all by herself. After she got it cleaned up, Payten waited for “Chick Days “ in February where her and her father purchased 13 of the little, 2-inch chicks and brought them home in a box. Raised in her room, then in our garage and finally the chicken house. She calls the chickens “The Ladies” and oh yes, each Lady has a name.
So breakfast is on Payten and “The Ladies” as they provide daily fresh eggs (you will gather from her chickens) to make a scrumptious breakfast with special homegrown eggs (of course), pancakes, maple syrup, bacon, fresh toast and milk. These items will be provided in the kitchen for you to cook a home cooked breakfast when you come to stay.
Enjoy the completely renovated home with plush beds and new bedding! I’m a neat freak (I usually have to bring my own bedding when staying in hotels.) Not here—EVERYTHING IS WASHED EACH TIME—I’ve got you covered!
There’s plenty to do on our farm with a 300-year-old oak tree where 2 swings are hanging from—lunch is perfect on the shaded picnic table right under that mighty oak. When the sun goes down, gather around the bonfire and hear the night come alive with sounds from nature or play your favorite country songs to cozy up to the one you love—We’ve got enough wood to last all night! There are other surprises along the way and this farmhouse is only 5 minutes from the MO River Bridge right at the MO State Capitol. Take Ghost Tours of the Missouri State Penitentiary for another night of fun. Great restaurants (we’ll suggest our favorites) and wonderful places the average traveler can’t find. Did I mention our Farmhouse is 4 minutes from the Katy Trail or cross the MO River Bridge on the bike access, attached to the side of the Bridge, to ride into the historic Jefferson City Downtown area. The bicentennial bridge is close to completion where you will be able to access Adrian's Island which is below the Capital and across the railroad tracts bordering the Missouri River. This is a multimillion dollar project that has been decades in the making and will bring a lot of tourism to Jefferson City.
