Your host runs Bark Point Ventures, a vacation rental management & concierge company that specializes in properties all along Lake Superior's South Shore. We live nearby and are available whenever needed to assist our guests. Our passion is ensuring guests experience the magic of what we feel is one of the most amazing places in the world.
Neighborhood Overview
The School House is located in a quiet part of Bayfield (though full disclosure - there is a historic church across the street that may have church bells ringing on Sundays & holidays). It’s tucked away from the commercial district, but walkable distance or a short drive to the ferry landing, shops, and restaurants.
Unit Overview
The unit features a main floor (which is on the second story of the building) that houses the open plan living/dining/kitchen spaces, spacious bathroom, main bedroom, and our favorite feature: the incredible four season sun porch (which is where the second sleeping area is located). The living room has a sofa bed, to offer a third sleeping space. Stunning panoramic views of the lake and Bayfield's harbor can be seen from the sunroom and great room.
The kitchen has all stainless appliances, quartz countertops, and plenty of room to cook up meals to enjoy on the dining room table or the sunporch. The main level bathroom has a deep soaking tub, perfect for relaxing after a day spent exploring the area!
The second level houses separate areas for relaxing, watching tv, and playing board games (or just escaping to enjoy a book by oneself). There’s also a second full bath on this floor. This level features some amazing architectural features, including the original wood beams that held up the school’s attic space.
While staying at the Home Room you’ll also be able to enjoy the building’s outdoor patio & pergola, complete with a grill, comfy chairs, and views. The condo also has a single stall garage for your use during your stay. We hope you’ll make the Home Room your home base for your visit to Bayfield!
Location & Transit Info
Bayfield is a very walkable city, so your best bet is on foot.
Off street parking in the unit's garage for one car. Plenty of street parking available, except during Applefest weekend in October. Less than 15 minute drive to Mt. Ashwabay ski hill, Big Top Chautauqua, hiking trails, beaches, and more.
Public transportation on the peninsula is provided by the Bay Area Rural Transit (BART), more information can be found on their website.
An EV charging station is located in the parking lot on the corner of Washington Ave. and E. 6th St. in Washburn.
The following shuttles and ferries are also accessible on foot from Reiten Boatyard:
- The Madeline Island Ferry will take you out to Madeline Island and runs regularly during the late spring, summer, fall, and much of the winter.
- The BART Bus runs regularly through Bayfield and around Chequamegon Bay for a modest fee.
- Big Top Chautauqua runs shuttles for most of for their concerts and events.
